Course Requirements & Student Journey
The diploma includes 120 live teaching hours delivered across 10 modules, together with practical skills development, reflective learning and independent study between modules. Students are expected to attend and participate fully in the taught programme and to complete the practical and written work required as the course progresses.
Practical experience develops gradually throughout the training. Students begin by developing and practising their skills within the supported learning environment and then build supervised practical experience as their competence and confidence develop. From Module 7, students may begin working with members of the public at a reduced student rate, subject to readiness, appropriate supervision and course guidance.
Readiness for public client work includes appropriate attendance and progress through the course, appropriate insurance and DBS arrangements where required, demonstrated competence in initial consultation and practical therapeutic skills, suitable supervision and the required professional client documentation being in place.
Assessment takes place throughout the NHTA programme and includes practical skills development, written and reflective work, case material and documented practice. Students complete a minimum of five formal case studies alongside their wider supervised client practice.
Students working towards the HPD (NCH) must also complete the separate HPD requirements and portfolio. NHTA provides teaching, assessment guidance and portfolio support throughout the programme.
Students should expect to undertake additional independent study, practical skills work and portfolio development between taught modules. Any outstanding course or HPD requirements must be completed within the completion period specified by NHTA in the course and enrolment documentation.
